Chronology Before Jem: Infinite

The Holograms and Misfits crash a karaoke party being held by the Lunas.

Synopsis[edit | edit source]

As they all arrive at a karaoke party being hosted at the home of Jade and Skye of the Lunas, the Holograms and the Misfits are scandalized to see one another! Peaking out from around the the door, Blaze meekly explains to the two rival bands that her bandmates invited both of them without accounting for either their history or that they may potentially arrive at the same time.

Once inside, Blaze's attempt to explain the incredibly elaborate scoring system in place for the singing contest is shushed by Jade and Skye, both of them needing complete silence so that they can focus on Clash's performance of "Attack of the Night". Pizzazz, however, is horrified at how Clash is butchering her song and pushes her out of the way so that she can show her how its done. As she finishes, she catches the Holograms griping about how hacky it seems for someone to do karaoke for their own song and challenges them to do better. While her sisters are wanting to leave, Aja takes Pizzazz up on that challenge and pulls out her own, custom microphone to give her interpretation of "Attack of the Night"!

With Aja doing shockingly well, Roxy and Jetta craft a plan to distract the Holograms and allow Pizzazz to get back on top. After stealing some score sheets from Skye and Jade (who are beginning to worry nobody is taking this as seriously as they are), they distribute them among the other party goers, claiming they're special tickets they can exchange them for autographs from the Holograms! As the Holograms are swarmed by fans, Pizzazz begins singing "MoreMoreMore" with Jetta and Roxy on backup vocals. After dispersing the crowd by claiming Jem is out in the garage practicing, Aja thinks quickly and sabotages the Misfits by going through Skye and Jade's kitchen (without permission, of course) and grabbing a whole plateload of bagels to distract Roxy! However, Pizzazz and Jetta soldier on without Roxy. Since they can't allow the Misfits to win by singing their song, Aja, Shana, and Raya beg Jerrica to transform into Jem and turn the odds back in their favor!

As Jem arrives, Pizzazz refuses to cede the floor to her no matter what the rules say. Completely ignoring Skye and Jade's attempt to stop them, Jem and Pizzazz begin singing their own songs over one another until they're finally broken up by Kimber, who chastises them for not understanding that karaoke is supposed to be about fun and not pointless competition. Eager to get all these people out of their house, Skye and Jade take advantage of this lull in the action to name the one participant who truly "gets" the spirit of karaoke the winner... Clash! As her prize, Clash is entitled to have an "All-Star Jam Session" with the Holograms and Misfits, but rather than take them up on that, Clash instead invites everyone else who didn't get a chance to compete to sing with her instead!

Quotes[edit | edit source]

Raya: "Wow, when the song is stripped down to its, like..."
Shana: "Base components?"
Raya: "Something like that. It really makes you see it in a whole new light."
Aja: "Yeah, a less screamy light."
Kimber: "That's why I love karaoke! It's fun and it gives you totally new insights into music! It's like a deconstruction of a song.

"Is this really the third time we're hearing this?! We aren't supposed to have any repeat songs... It's in the rules..."
"Well, none of them actually stopped to ask about the rules, did they?"

-Jade and Skye are beginning to wonder if inviting the Holograms and Misfits was a good idea...

"Should we just... announce a winner?"
"Is that the best way to get all these people out of our house? Then Yes."

-Jade and Skye are now certain they shouldn't have invited the Holograms and Misfits.

Continuity notes[edit | edit source]

  • As per the credits page, this story takes place before the Jem: Infinite crossover. More specifically, given that the Misfits know about Blaze and the Lunas, this story must take place sometime after the third issue of Jem: The Misfits.
