Transformers Character Pages: How Much Is Too Much?[edit source]

Kup, and Skywarp's pages are VERY truncated, reducing entire events/storylines down to just one storylink. Optimus Prime and Windblade are a lot more detailed. I feel like we need to keep our TF articles consistent, so we need to pick a style and stick with it. I personally prefer the more truncated style of Kup and Skywarp, although I do question if we need all the TF-only background info. --DanielAdkins (talk) 21:54, 1 May 2017 (UTC)

I added the Earth-based background info for Skywarp and Kup since I thought it gave appropriate context to the rest - GI Joe fans don't need to know about Skywarp's early days in Megatron's army, but they might be interested to know that he blew up Beijing. That said, yeah, I vote for the truncated style. --Broadside (talk) 08:01, 2 May 2017 (UTC)
I also think the truncated style of Kup and Skywarp works, though perhaps a slight expansion could be useful. S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent 47 (talk) 11:53, 2 May 2017 (UTC)
When you say "truncated style" do you mean just giving the short version of their TF specific history or making everything, including the shared universe relevant stuff truncated? Because I definitely agree we don't need to get super in depth about everything Skywarp did before he became a Joe but I do think there's some merit to having a more detailed description of what he's doing now that he is.Unitremover (talk) 14:52, 2 May 2017 (UTC)
I think perhaps for characters who are going to be appearing on a regular basis in Hasbroverse material, that's a good idea. Characters like Windblade and Optimus, less so. --Broadside (talk) 18:18, 2 May 2017 (UTC)
Sure, that sounds reasonable. So we'd basically just be swapping the style Skywarp/Kup's pages are written with the style Prime/Windblade's are and vice versa? Unitremover (talk) 22:07, 2 May 2017 (UTC)
Okay, so over a week later I realize that what I said in my last reply doesn't actually solve the problem Daniel brought up at all. I guess I'll say again that I think I prefer the more detailed way Prime/Windblade's pages are structured but it looks like I'm in the minority there. So are we officially going with the truncated style?Unitremover (talk) 04:30, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
Pretty much, I think. We might expand coverage of recurring characters to be a bit more robust, but I'm not certain that's necessary right now. --Broadside (talk) 13:29, 11 May 2017 (UTC)

Abbreviations in page names[edit source]

What's going to be our policy for this? Should it be B.A.T. or BAT, M.A.R.S. Industries or MARS Industries? Given G.I. Joe (team) and M.A.S.K., I assume the former, but most pages link to the latter take. --Broadside (talk) 16:25, 31 May 2017 (UTC)

It's probably more "correct" to type them out with the dots but at the same time I don't think I'd mind too much if we didn't need to. Unitremover (talk) 17:17, 31 May 2017 (UTC)
I say we go with the former since most of the time they're written out on panel, its with the dots. --DanielAdkins (talk) 18:25, 31 May 2017 (UTC)
IIRC, earlier Joe books didn't use the dots, but later ones do. I'd say keep the dots, since that's how Hasbro always stylises those names. Jalaguy (talk) 21:36, 31 May 2017 (UTC)

Spam + abuse filters[edit source]

Hello everyone! I'm Samantha, a member of the ShoutWiki team. I'm contacting all you about the spam since I've there's been a bit of spam here today. I took some precautions and set up abuse filters so that there'll be less spam occurring. Abuse filters are essentially a collection of rules written in a special syntax that are checked against an edit, and if edit matches the patterns, then you can choose to either:

  • prevent the edit from going through
  • let the edit go through but have it tagged
  • show a warning, remove the user's rights
  • revoke the user's autoconfirmed status
  • auto-block the user/IP from editing
  • only trigger actions based on a rate limit
  • or a mix of these.

Would this community this wiki be interested in having rights configured so that administrators can edit and create filters? Let me know, and if the community is interested in this, I can set these rights up.

SamanthaNguyen (talk) ShoutWiki Staff 19:01, 21 June 2017 (UTC)

Hi, Samantha! That'd be great, thank you. --Broadside (talk) 20:30, 21 June 2017 (UTC)
I've gave some abusefilter rights to the administrator group. Also, some rights have been limited, so for example abusefilter-private and abusefilter-view-private isn't granted because it conflicts with our Privacy Policy, but you'll still be able to create, edit, and delete filters. I hope you understand. Cheers! SamanthaNguyen (talk) ShoutWiki Staff 22:24, 21 June 2017 (UTC)
Many thanks! S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent 47 (talk) 02:06, 22 June 2017 (UTC)

Character Histories: How much non-IDW Stuff do we cover?[edit source]

The characters we cover all have prior histories from before IDW began making comics for them. Would it be appropriate to create pages based on the non-IDW Stuff, such as ROM's Toyline or Marvel Comics Series? Or the M.A.S.K cartoons? If this is meant to be a sister wiki to TFWiki, and they a similar level of depth is warranted.

We have franchise overview pages: ROM (franchise), M.A.S.K. (franchise), etc. Otherwise, we don't really need that - our coverage is purely for the sake of the shared universe rather than being a general "Joe, MASK, Jem, Rom, Micronauts and Action Man" wiki. (Also, please sign your talkpage edits with ~~~~) --Broadside (talk) 22:25, 23 June 2017 (UTC)

Clue[edit source]

IDW just released a new Clue comic based on the game by Hasbro & it had a "Welcome to the Hasbro Universe" page at the end of the comic, so should it get a page or no? --Darth Gonzo (talk) 04:07, 29 June 2017 (UTC)

...Huh. You know, I haven't read it, but it could be that we should cover it based on the "why not" ethos that we cover Jem with. --Broadside (talk) 08:35, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
What about other IDW's series based on Hasbro properties such "Magic" and "Dungeons & Dragons"? I think they're should be covered on wiki too.
No. This is just for the Hasbro Universe and things that fit if you squint. MTG, D&D, and MLP are right out. --Broadside (talk) 16:08, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
Well they are out for now you mean. They could be added in the near future. --Darth Gonzo (talk) 21:31, 29 June 2017 (UTC)

Army Ants[edit source]

In the upcoming G.I. Joe Unmasked will be the first appearance of Hasbro's Army Ants in fiction. --Darth Gonzo (talk) 20:09, 21 July 2017 (UTC)

"Hasbro Universe" subheadings[edit source]

Do we really need them? Surely the Hasbroverse is the "default", and we don't really need to specify? --Broadside (talk) 10:26, 25 July 2017 (UTC)

I find it irritating to see "Aw Yeah Revolution" all by itself in the table of contents. That way, it looks as though "Aw Yeah Revolution" is the main body of fiction. S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent 47 (talk) 05:52, 3 August 2017 (UTC)
Why are we covering Aw Yeah here, though? Can't that just be left to TFWiki? Creedence (talk) 18:58, 24 August 2017 (UTC)
Because it is a parody of the wider Hasbro Universe which we cover, and if someone only cares about, say, Rom, they shouldn't have to go to TFWiki just to see what he did in a little kid book. --DanielAdkins (talk) 20:03, 24 August 2017 (UTC)

Other comics[edit source]

Hi, everybody. Non-canon Aw Yeah Revolution comic is covered on wiki. So, why not include IDW's other out-of-continuity series based on Hasbro properties (for example, Street Fighter X G.I. Joe, A Real American Hero and Transformers vs. G.I. Joe)? I suggest this because there's no wiki which covers those comics.

At this point, we are only focused on the main IDW Hasbro Universe and related works. Aw Yeah! is a parody of the mainline Revolution book, thus it is worth including. --DanielAdkins (talk) 20:03, 24 August 2017 (UTC)
That said, the Aw-Yeah-verse is covered in its entirety on TFWiki, so maybe we should do "main article" link-outs for those sections...? --Broadside (talk) 11:38, 10 October 2017 (UTC)

VOTE: "Hawk" vs "General Hawk" for pagename[edit source]

So, there's quite a bit of disagreement on this, so we should put it to a vote: should the page for G.I. Joe's original leader be at "Hawk" or "General Hawk"?

  • The argument for "General Hawk": He's almost universally referred to in IDW with the "General" outside of the Larry Hama issues, and he's the only character who gets a title appended to his codename other than the likes of Major Bludd and Doctor Mindbender. Most page writeups are going to be referring to him as "General Hawk", because that's how he's addressed in the story.
  • The argument for just "Hawk": His codename is traditionally (and presumably still is in IDW) just "Hawk", so it's not an equivalent to "Major Bludd", etc.

So... yay/nay? --Broadside (talk) 11:36, 10 October 2017 (UTC)

I prefer Hawk. --DanielAdkins (talk) 13:54, 10 October 2017 (UTC)
In this case I vote General Hawk. S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent 47 (talk) 14:25, 10 October 2017 (UTC)
Hawk. Creedence (talk) 19:56, 11 October 2017 (UTC)

Will this wiki be around for awhile?[edit source]

OK, we all know the "Shared Universe" ended with Unicron and this wiki understandably has a lot of holes. I've been focusing more on this wiki lately vs the Transformers one but if this going away anytime soon, someone let me know so I won't waste my time. --MistaTee (talk) 14:38, 8 February 2019 (UTC)

There's no plans to get rid of it. --Broadside (talk) 15:35, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
