Formerly a scientist working under the employ of Cobra, Dr. Jacob Mitchell was tragically driven insane after being trapped underwater for a significant period of time. Now calling himself Raptor after the bird who helped save his life, he believes mankind is a curse upon the Earth, one that must be eliminated so that the animal kingdom may rule again!

Fiction[edit | edit source]

Prior to joining Cobra, Dr. Jacob Mitchell was a scientist researching the sensory abilities of animals. Seeing potential in this, Cobra offered him the opportunity to continue his research, so long as his findings would be able to benefit their B.A.T. program. G.I. Joe Infestation #1 He also has some experience in accounting as well, apparently. Scarlett's Strike Force #2 TFWikiFavicon.png

Stationed aboard the organization's underwater Cottonmouth facility off the coast of California, Mitchell worked on the B.A.T.s alongside his fellow doctor Elizabeth Zych. After one of their tests ended in disaster, with the android unable to distinguish between friend and foe or remain standing upright, Mitchell shut down the robot as it began firing upon them as well. As the frustrated Zych began to leave, Mitchell attempted to convince his wheelchair-bound colleague that the purpose of the B.A.T. program wasn't to enable her to walk again and that her constant adjustments to the androids' balance programming was hurting their work. Refusing to listen, Zych ordered Mitchell to prepare more of his lab animals for implant testing and ignored his refusal.

No longer content to keep butchering animals, Mitchell headed towards the cages and began releasing them, starting with a falcon by the name of Raptor. As his assistant attempted to reason with him, gunfire rang out from down the hall, followed by a panicked team of Vipers under attack from the B.A.T.s. As the soldiers closed the door behind them, the holding facility for the animals soon proved to be no better, as the implanted animals were now under the control of the same mysterious virus that was controlling the B.A.T.s! G.I. Joe Infestation #1 As the Vipers were killed by the cybernetically enhanced lab animals, Mitchell noticed Raptor trying to open the vent cover of the room's air duct. Seeing a way to survive, Mitchell began helping the bird and was able to escape but was forced to abandon his assistant to the rabid cyborg monkeys.

Following Raptor, Mitchell eventually met up with Baroness, Interrogator, Psyche Out, and another Viper inside of a supply closet. After Baroness took care of several pursuing monkeys, the team followed Raptor through the ducts again until exiting outside of Elizabeth Zych's lab, where Raptor seemed to abandon the group. Having figured out that the machines prioritized armed targets over unarmed ones, Mitchell and Psyche Out ran to Zych's lab while the others shot at the robots. Once inside, Mitchell began asking where the arm Baroness had given her was only to discover Zych had merged with it and that she was behind all the chaos. Horrified at what Elizabeth had become, Mitchell distracted her while Psyche Out severed her connection to the rest of the base, killing both of them in the process. Now alone, Mitchell heard Raptor calling out from elsewhere in the base and began moving towards the sound, hoping the bird might save his life one more time. G.I. Joe Infestation #2

While Raptor did indeed save his life, Mitchell was still trapped in the underwater base as it flooded and was eventually driven insane by blood loss and lack of oxygen. By the time he was found, Mitchell had killed and eaten Raptor to survive (something he claimed he'd been given permission to do), had taken the bird's name for himself, Infestation 2: G.I. Joe #1 and filed all of his teeth down to razor sharp, pointy fangs. Infestation 2: G.I. Joe #2 He had also come to believe humanity was a curse upon the Earth and that the animal kingdom was destined to one day rise up and take it's rightful place above mankind. Due to these factors, Interrogator declared Raptor mentally unfit for duty and had him moved to Cobra's Snake Pit insane asylum. Infestation 2: G.I. Joe #1 Raptor's insanity would one day prove beneficial, as it rendered him immune to the song of the Elder Gods that was mutating the Snake Pit's faculty. Agreeing to help close the "unnatural" Elder Gods' portal, Raptor joined his fellow inmates in killing the mutated guards with flamethrowers while Crystal Ball negotiated with the Eldritch horrors. Because of his actions, Raptor was evacuated from the facility once all was said and done. Infestation 2: G.I. Joe #2

Many years later, following the dissolution of Cobra, Raptor was brought back in to the organization after it was rebuilt by the Baroness. Assigned to work together with Croc Master, Raptor angered his teammate by asserting that dinosaurs had more in common with birds than reptiles. M.A.S.K.: First Strike TFWikiFavicon.png

When a G.I. Joe team arrived to attack Cobra's base at the North Pole, Raptor and Croc Master were dispatched to deal with them. Having still not settled their argument, Raptor and Croc Master loudly argued about the genealogy of dinosaurs, which allowed the Joes to hear them coming and set up a trap. After they were ambushed, Raptor and Croc Master called a pair of unfrozen dinosaurs to their aid, which Spirit eventually defeated by destroying their mind control devices. Their dinos defeated, Raptor and Croc Master fled by calling a pterodactyl to carry them back to the Cobra temple. Scarlett's Strike Force #2 TFWikiFavicon.png
