Hasbro Universe[edit | edit source]

Origins[edit | edit source]

Storm Shadow was a part of the Arashikage ninja clan since his youth. Under the tutelage of the Hard Master, he and fellow student known as Heitai hung from a rope strung across a huge chasm with a raging river at the bottom. As they were forced to move across the rope in an effort to teach them the value of patience, Storm Shadow told Heitai he was losing his grip and begged his fellow student to save him. As he began to fall, Heitai did as asked, but as Storm Shadow rejoined him on the rope, he criticized Heitai for not letting him die, as he would have if their roles were reversed. Serpent's Shadow, Part 1

Later, the Hard Master gave Storm Shadow and Heitai (now renamed "Snake Eyes") another test: sticking their hands into a pot of molten lead to prove they had mastered the ninja art of defying the laws of the physical universe. Though Storm Shadow hesitated, Snake Eyes did not and was able to carry out the task successfully. Storm Shadow immediately volunteered to do it as well, but Hard Master told him not to, as to do it after he'd seen Snake Eyes would be to borrow his courage rather than use his own. Serpent's Shadow, Part 2

Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes, and several of their fellow students watched as the Hard Master gloated before them that he was in the possession of the rare and delicious dragon fruit that they were forbidden from tasting. As his most gifted student, Hard Master assigned Snake Eyes to guard the fruit, but this didn't stop Storm Shadow from attempting to take the dragon fruit for himself. Though Snake Eyes managed to unmask Storm Shadow as he stole the fruit basket, he refused to identify him as the thief to Hard Master, earning himself a harsh beating in front of the other students. As Hard Master told the other boys that Snake Eyes had gone against everything ninja stand for by believing in honor. Thus, it was the thief who had truly learned the lesson of the ninja, as he had embraced secrecy and guile. With his teeth stained by the dragon fruit, Storm Shadow smiled and identified himself as the thief. Serpent's Shadow, Part 3

Agent of Cobra[edit | edit source]

During an operation carried out by G.I. Joe in Rangoon, Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes encountered each other again, the Arashikage ninja overwhelming the Joes. In the aftermath of this encounter, Snake Eyes went rogue to investigate Cobra and what connection they had to the Arshikage. Cobra Command, Part 1

After carrying out an assassination in Rome, M.A.S.S. Destruction, Part 1 Storm Shadow was sent to The Republic of Baranique to interrogate the nation's president as to what had happened to the team of Vipers Cobra had teleported into his office. As he informed him that Americans suddenly arrived and kidnapped the one Viper they didn't kill, Storm Shadow finished the job the Vipers had failed and killed Ukumba. M.A.S.S. Destruction, Part 2 Traveling back to the Tokyo penthouse of Hanzo Satori, he relayed the information he'd picked up to his oyabun, who would in turn relay it to Cobra. M.A.S.S. Destruction, Part 3

With Oda Satori having become a candidate for the title of Cobra Commander following the assassination of the previous title holder, Storm Shadow was sent along with Zartan to infiltrate and destroy G.I. Joe's base of operations to help earn Satori points in the contest. After Zartan infiltrated the base by disguising himself as General Hawk, he found a blind spot in The Pit's perimeter that Storm Shadow could sneak through. G.I. Joe vol. 2 #1 Storm Shadow was then instructed on how to best infiltrate the base by Zartan. G.I. Joe vol. 2 #2 Once inside, Storm Shadow went about sabotaging the base's nuclear reactor before meeting up with his ally for the first time, killing the two Joes escorting him before before freeing him. Following Zartan's instructions, Storm Shadow donned the armor worn by one of his two escorts and played dead for Flint's team before the two of them hijacked the Jumpshot evacuation rocket. Once in flight, Zartan assured Storm Shadow that Satori had arranged a method for them to return. G.I. Joe vol. 2 #3 This arrangement would soon arrive in the form of a Mamba helicopter that picked the two of them up. As Storm Shadow noticed, however, their escape was witnessed by a team of Joes who were investigating the Jumpshot's wreckage. As two nearby fighter jets prepared to shoot the Mamba down, both Storm Shadow and Zartan escaped the explosion by launching their respective flight pods, using the explosion of the Mamba's main body to cover their escape.

Returning to Oda Satori, Storm Shadow informed him that he'd done as he was told. At Satori's inquiry, Storm Shadow told his Oyabun that Zartan was of use to him, though he hesitated slightly to say so. G.I. Joe vol. 2 #4 Unbeknownst to Storm Shadow, the reason Satori trusted Zartan so much was because he was Zartan, the real Satori having been killed by him so that he could assume his identity while working under orders from Krake, who would be named the new Cobra Commander. Reunion with Snake Eyes[edit | edit source]

During Cobra's invasion of Nanzhao, Storm Shadow single handedly ambushed and destroyed a motorcade transporting a Nanzhonese minister's out of the country, thoroughly impressing the other Arashikage watching him work. Cobra Command, Part 1

Death and Return[edit | edit source]

Some years after he was shown Snake Eyes' tattered mask, Storm Shadow learned of his former brother's return when a pair of Arashikage informed him that the other ninja he'd dispatched to kill Erika Le Tene were taken out by him. The Dark Sister In an effort to draw Snake Eyes out so they could finally settle their feud, Storm Shadow next dispatched a group of assassins to kill William Kessler-Latta, whom Snake Eyes was attempting to track down. The Lost Boy When the other ninja proved no match for Kessler-Latta's guardian Ronin, Storm Shadow confronted them, intending to kill the both of them himself. As he began to duel with Ronin, Storm Shadow revealed to her that she was nearly recruited to the Arashikage but was passed over because he believed her to be a quitter. Thanking her for proving him wrong, Storm Shadow then killed Ronin by stabbing her through the back. Before he could kill the defenseless Billy though, Storm Shadow was stopped by the sudden arrival of Snake Eyes. Knight Errant

As they prepared to face off, Storm Shadow taunted Snake Eyes by informing him just how good he felt about his chances against him, as Snake Eyes was almost assuredly exhausted by the long, sudden journey he took to stop him. Though Snake Eyes won the first strike against him, Storm Shadow was undeterred, feeling the presence of Erika and Billy, people whose fates concerned Snake Eyes, would eventually cause him to slip up. As he held his sword to her throat though, Storm Shadow was convinced by Erika to let her and Billy go for now, as he could easily track them down and kill them later as opposed to the far more elusive Snake Eyes. Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes then began what was to be their final battle, eventually coming to an end when Storm Shadow was impaled upon a sword that was stuck halfway through a tree trunk. Refusing to let Snake Eyes have the pleasure of killing him, Storm Shadow pulled the pin out of one of the grenades Snake Eyes had on his belt. After the explosive went off, only Snake Eyes was seen walking away from it. When he was later asked about what had happened to Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes was his usual, silent self, betraying no information about these unseen events. The Silent Warrior

Some time after his seeming death, the name "Storm Shadow" was taken on by another ninja Mr Love and Justice who formed the Red Shadows clan from the remnants of the now fallen Arashikage. When the Baroness rebuilt the defunct Cobra with herself as Commander, the mysteriously still living Storm Shadow was brought back into the the organization's coils.

Joe: First Strike TFWikiFavicon.png Storm Shadow stayed back, wanting to see the martial artist who supposedly bested Snake Eyes in action. At some point, Storm Shadow fought and defeated his successor to take back his name and offered her a choice between death or his tutelage. She chose the latter and began training with Storm Shadow under the name "Tempest". Storm Shadow and Tempest would later offer Quick Kick this same choice when he and the other Joes staged an attack on Cobra's arctic temple base. Scarlett's Strike Force #3 TFWikiFavicon.png

Aw Yeah Revolution![edit | edit source]

Storm Shadow was meditating on a mountaintop outside of a Cobra fortress when Optimus Prime came through a portal from Microspace. Sometime later, Snake Eyes, Acroyear, and Rom the Space Knight arrived. Storm Shadow revealed to them that, due to the different physical properties between universes, they’ve arrived much later than Optimus did. He then engaged Snake Eyes in combat, wishing to continue their rivalry. Though the ninja’s weapons proved less effective against his rival’s allies, their battle was ultimately interrupted by Cobra’s newest weapon – a mind controlled Optimus Prime!
