The name or term "Zartan" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Zartan (disambiguation).
Occasionally shown as a double feature with Rorzo, the story of a man who was raised by apes.

Zartan is a Spanish film staring Cesareo Rivas and Elena Oliveira. It presumably details the exploits of a swashbuckling swordsman named Zartan who may or may not protect the people of nineteenth century Spanish California against those who would do them harm.

Fiction[edit | edit source]

When a young, nameless street urchin was being accosted by a pair of corrupt police officers asking for his name, he spotted a poster for Zartan in the alley and decided to take the name for himself. The Origin of Zartan Part 1

Decades later, when the adult clone of "Zartan" visited his predecessor's hometown, he found the same poster still up in the same alley after all these years. The Origin of Zartan Part 3

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • In case it wasn't obvious, this fictional in-universe version of Zartan is a riff on the classic pulp character Zorro.
  • The hood and mask that the film's protagonist wears are a nod to the hood and eye-paint (and blank eyes) sported by the original design of G.I. Joe's Zartan, as well as Zorro's distinctive eye-mask.
