Dante Alighieri
Dante Alighieri was a famous Italian poet in the 13th century. What's less well-known is that he was a member of Cobra.
Fiction[edit | edit source]
In his youth, Dante fought and was banished from his home for Cobra's sake. He became a loyal member of the organization and grew to be close friends with the earliest known Cobra Commander.
In 1308, Dante began work on the poem The Divine Comedy, which he claimed served as an allegory of Cobra. Cobra Commander felt the work compromised the secrecy that was necessary to the organization and ordered Dante's execution...but only after he'd finished. The Commander was quite intrigued by what he'd already read.
Dante finished his work in 1320 before being poisoned a year later on the mournful orders of Cobra Commander. Though enthralled by Dante's utopian vision, the Commander realized that humanity would forever be trapped in the "inferno" and could never reach Dante's promised "paradiso".
The story of Dante's final days was recounted in a discussion between Baroness and Siren in 2014, the tale leaving even the Baroness at a loss for words. Inferno
