G.I. Joe arctic trooper Snow Job is thrown out of his element when his flight home is diverted for a mission in sunny Venezuela.

Synopsis[edit | edit source]

A band of poachers close in on their quarry in the Antarctic Ocean, intending to claim their pelts... but as they grow near, they realise that their outboard motor has been shot out, leaving them stranded, despite there being no-one around to shoot them... or so they think. High up on a cliff, a sniper rifle-wielding Snow Job chuckles at his accomplishment. His G.I. Joe teammate Ace is unimpressed, as the United States isn't supposed to have a military presence in the region, and he doesn't want any poachers getting shot by accident — though the cold weather specialist is confident that he never misses. With Ace's plane carrying him back to the Pit for an unknown reason, Snow Job dozes off... only to be awoken when Scarlett calls in with an emergency! Though Snow Job only has his cold weather gear with him, he is the only Joe in range to deal with a plot to assassinate the president of Venezuela, which could potentially destabilise the global economy thanks to the president's status as the leader of OPEC. Nobody's happy with the situation — least of all Snow Job, who is completely unprepared for a dangerous mission in such a hot country — but he's the only agent available.

Conveyed to the capitol building in Caracas by a man that assumes he's an admiral (because of his white uniform), Snow Job recieves a lukewarm welcome from his charge, who is unimpressed with the American's cold weather gear and barely even believes in the assassination threat; Snow Job, however, sets him straight by pointing out the many people who have reason to want the president dead. Putting his plan into action, Snow Job — now sporting a security officer's jacket to blend in — has three teams move out to the presidential vehicle convoy, two acting as decoys... but as they move to get the president into his limousine, it is destroyed in an explosion, and one of the guards is taken out by a sniper! As the president and his guards take cover behind the wreckage, Snow Job realises his mistake — the sniper zoned in on his distinctive appearance and red hair... but he doesn't have time to dwell on his devision, as the sniper has support from two shooters across the road. The president curses Snow Job for his plan getting them into that situation, but Snow Job dismisses him, instead asking to see his charge's hands. Knowing that they can't keep trading fire with their foes forever, Snow Job throws a small container with a timer counting down on top, and the shooters panic and try to run from what they believe to be plastic explosive... and are quickly shot by Snow Job, who retrieves his ski wax and the president's watch.

Snow Job has the president and his guards run for the capitol, while he watches for muzzle flash; and when the sniper fires, killing a guard, Snow Job opens fire himself and forces the shooter back. Leaving the guards to get the president to safety, Snow Job makes for the sniper's nest, breaking into the building and climing to its uppermost floor; but as he searches for his foe, he is nearly shot by a bullet coming in through the window that the sniper had escaped through. While the G.I. Joe soldier takes cover, the other man proposes that, with the president safe, they call it a draw and both withdraw; but Snow Job throws his radio through the window, prompting the sniper to whip around and open fire at it. With the other man distracted, Snow Job bursts through the other window and pursues; the two exchange a few shots before Snow Job takes aim, fires... and hits.

Snow Job congratulates himself on hitting the butt of the sniper's rifle rather than the man himself, and — demanding the name of his employers — threatens to hand him over to the Venezuelan military rather than the Americans, who would treat him a whole lot better. As Snow Job later relays to Scarlett and Dial Tone, the sniper revealed himself to be part of the Black Bloods — a long-rumored cabal of mercenaries and businessman trying to manipulate the price of oil for financial gain; Snow Job's captive is the first solid lead that the U.S. has on them. His mission done, Snow Job sets off to the Pit for marksmanship testing, so that he can be certified as a rifle instructor... but he turns down the offer of some time in the sun. After running around Venezuela in winter gear, he's had all the heat he can handle!

Quotes[edit | edit source]

"Firing on civilians from 1,000 meters away? Really good work. Especially since the U.S. is not officially allowed to have a military presence down here."
"First of all, Ace, those aren't civilians, they're poachers. Real scum of the Earth. And shooting out their engines is about the only fun thing to do around here.

Notes[edit | edit source]

G.I. Joe references[edit | edit source]

  • It's usually overlooked in favor of his role as a cold weather specialist, but being a rifle instructor was indeed the classic Snow Job's secondary MOS — his superb aim is even called out on his filecard.
