Fiction[edit | edit source]

Vanessa Warfield has been obsessed with the human psyche since she was a child reading her mother's trashy true-crime magazines. This led her to work for the FBI as a criminal profiler tracking down serial killers. With each one she tracked down, Warfield grew more and more invested in the inherent darkness of the human mind. Her work on psychological warfare eventually drew the eye of General Miles "Mayhem" Manheim. Vanessa Warfield profile

In 2015, Vanessa was one of the recruits for Project Spectrum. Out of all the recruits, Vanessa most impressed Manheim. During a meeting with Manheim, Vanessa predicted he was going to test her with the analogy of Schrodinger’s Cat, whether a cat in a box was alive or dead, and went ahead and gave her answer: of course the cat was dead. She poisoned the cat before putting it in the box. Mayhem liked this response, leading to her getting chosen for his black ops team. After the recruits' field test in the Canadian Rockies, Vanessa reported to Manheim that while Sly Rax and Bruno Sheppard were fine, the others were demoralized. M.A.S.K.: Revolution

Warfield was part of M.A.S.K.'s first mission to neutralize the Autobots Kup and Aileron in Greece. She piloted Manta and attacked Aileron with Matt Trakker and Brad Turner. While Trakker expressed concerns about the Transformers' behavior, Warfield shrugged them off and focused on killing the robot. The Divine Source of Liberty TFWikiFavicon.png After being captured and brought to G.I. Joe's Governor's Island headquarters by Miles Mayhem, Kup tried to persuade Vanessa and Sly to let him go. Rax complained that the Autobot wouldn't shut up, but Vanessa was able to convince Kup to share his intel on the Ore-13 deposit in Monument Valley. Warfield was surprised by how easy it was to break the robot's "programming." O Ship of State TFWikiFavicon.png When Ian Noble breached Governor's Island's defenses, Mayhem told Vanessa and Sly to ensure their attacker did not find their Cybertronian assets. The two attacked Ian, but he was able to reach cover in the same room Kup was in. Action Man and the Autobot then teamed up and blew a hole in the building, only to be cornered by the rest of the G.I. Joe forces. When confronted about Kup's presence by Mainframe and Helix, Warfield and Rax lied, saying Scarlett knew about him. After Kup and Ian escaped, Mayhem expressed that their hand may be played to its limit, ordering the pair to pack their things. The Modern World TFWikiFavicon.png

Warfield joined her fellow M.A.S.K. operatives in their assault on Autobot City, providing air support from the Manta. The New Colossus TFWikiFavicon.png After the Dire Wraith-empowered Baron Karza began to wreak havoc on all sides, she joined the rest of the M.A.S.K team in an aerial assault. Vanessa, along with Rax and Bruno Sheppard, disappeared during the battle and was presumed dead in the Ore-13 explosion. Valley Forge TFWikiFavicon.png

In actuality, however, Warfield was alive, along with the other presumed-dead M.A.S.K. agents, as part of Mayhem's new V.E.N.O.M. unit, who attacked the reaming M.A.S.K. team at Harrison's Cave in Barbados. M.A.S.K. #1 When V.E.N.O.M. unmasked themselves to their former comrades, Vanessa chastised Matt over his failures. After M.A.S.K. escaped from the cave, Vanessa pursued Gloria's Shark in Manta, trying to prevent her from reaching the water. She was halted by an air assault from the Thunderhawk, and Warfield quickly returned fire from the ground using her Ice Queen Mask. M.A.S.K. #2
